A Work of Heart is currently trying to raise $25,000 to build ‘Safe Haven’ – a home for 20 disadvantaged children living in the Mathare slum.

“Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time.
We are the ones we’ve been waiting for.
We are the change that we seek.” – Barack Obama

To give you a bit of the backstory- We have been working with a non-profit Living Positive Kenya, (which is located in the Mathare slum of Kenya) for the past four years. One of their main objectives is to find sponsorship for local children to go to boarding school. By receiving sponsorship these children are taken out of the harsh realities of slum life and given the opportunity to break the cycle of poverty they were born into.

However, a lot of these children don’t have a safe home to return to during school holidays and summer vacation. Sadly, they are forced to go back to the streets of the slum until school resumes.

Safe Haven will work as a home away from home for children who need a place to go when their school closes. They will each have their own bed, nutritious food, clean water, and have a caretaker on site to watch over them 24/7. This home will be built on a plot of farmland where they can grow crops that will produce income to keep Safe Haven afloat financially.

We currently have over $3,600.00 raised and are able to take donations on this page or you can purchase art. and 1/3 of the proceeds will be donated to the Safe Haven project. We plan to return to Kenya once we have the full amount to complete the project. Local workers will be hired to complete the project to create short term jobs. The supplies needed to complete the project will be bought in the local markets to ensure that the funding for this project will benefit this small community as much as possible.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
